  1. Understanding Communication and Behaviors Common to Dementia

    • Dementia may include memory loss, personality, sensory, and behavior changes. Paranoid delusions and hallucinations may also develop. All of which create communication problems. • Sharing information and ideas can be difficult. For a person with dementia and their friends or family, it is worse. As dementia progresses, the ability to understand declines over time. So does the ability to speak so that others may understand. • Many people with dementia develop difficult behaviors as their disease progresses. Learning how to communicate and respond to behavior can decrease the stress for both the person with dementia and their caregiver.
