Military veterans and their immediate families are invited to climb for free on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Boundless Adventures aerial adventure park in Kenosha County’s Bristol Woods Park.
The inaugural Military and Veterans Family Day will run from 4 to 9 p.m. While veterans and their immediate families are welcome to climb for free, the park will also remain open for the general public to climb, with all proceeds going to the Southern Wisconsin All-Airborne Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association Inc.
“We’re excited to offer this opportunity to veterans and their families, and to raise funds for a great cause,” said Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser.
The 82nd Airborne Division Association is an independent group of volunteers that donates 100 percent of funds raised to help wounded veterans.
Boundless Adventures features six acres of obstacle courses that range in difficulty based on the ability and experience of the individual. The aerial adventure park utilizes cables connected to trees or utility poles to build 9 courses with over 120 elements that range 20 to 40 feet above the ground for climbers to safely maneuver to each feature.
“If my fellow veterans ‘enjoyed’ the Confidence Course during basic training, then they will find this even more fun without the Drill Instructor yelling at them," said Jack Gibbons, Vice Chairman of the Southern Wisconsin Chapter.
Kenosha County Parks, Boundless Adventures and the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services are cohosting the Military and Veterans Family Day event. Boundless Adventures and Bristol Woods Park are located at 9800 160th Ave. (Highway MB) in the Village of Bristol.
“The entire Boundless Adventures family is honored to show our appreciation for the sacrifice that these heroes and their families have made to serve their country, and keep us safe,” said Brian Funtleyder, owner of Boundless Adventures.
Preregistration for the free climb event is strongly encouraged. Active military and veterans can register by contacting Ali Nelson, director of the Kenosha County Division of Veterans Services, at Ali.Nelson@kenoshacounty.org or 262-605-6690.
